Common practices of foam board insulation
Spray foam and foam boards can be used to insulate almost anything, including: roofs, walls, foundations, entry and overhead garage doors, pipes and tanks, under basement slabs, or over a slab-on-grade floor. A good practice of insulation is to spray it in wall or floor cavities.
A good idea is to keep the foam board insulation materials out of direct sun-light because in time the sun’s ultraviolet rays can and will damage them. For example, for roofs this is done by applying a coating of tar or acrylic over the existing foam board insulation. In some cases, the foam insulation can also be covered with a layer of asphalt or roofing felt. Be aware though when doing this, the solvents in some coatings can dissolve certain plastics.
There are a few ways foam insulation can be incorporated in concrete walls and one of them is pouring loose foam beads into masonry blocks; another one would be to inject liquid foam into hollow block cores; yet another practice would be to manufacture concrete blocks to accommodate rigid foam inserts.
